HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Suckerberg and his spies at Facebook sure have filled up my junk mail with messages of people trying to contact me even though I have only been there once.  Being a technophobe I can't figure out how to delete the thing.  If you want to contact me through Bill Gates then my e-mail is fwthom@hotmail.com or call me via the NSA at my cell phone (832-215-3710).  Give me your real thoughts or make up your own lies, but don't just send some bull circulating the internet.

Yes, so far I have been able to fight off the faceless mind eating zombies from Facewbook and I have not had to deal with the alien twits from Twitter yet.  (tweet, tweet, tweet).  What's that noise and what are those seed pods doing in my yard?  EEEEEEYAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!

Regarding Facebook, those phantom friends who were trying to reach me drove me crazy. I even tried to relegate emails from Facebook to junk, but my Mac wouldn't send them there. I rarely if ever used Facebook, so I cancelled.  Their response to me was, "are you sure you want to do this?"  I haven't missed it a bit. The only downside is that anyone trying to go on my now defunct page gets the message that I have de-friended them.

Am finally back at home to recover completely.  Cannot do anything until seeing the doctor again on June 9th.  Thanks, again, to all for thoughts & prayers!

Marcia,

I definately agree with you about Facebook. At any given time I am about a nano-second from deleating the account. I must admit I have used it as the "Lazy Man's" way to communicate. Maybe I am too old fashioned..but nothing beats face to face contact, followed by phone contact, followed be a email....and at the very bottom of the food chain is Facebook.I have seen my grand kids sitting across from each other in the same room texting one another. I don't get it. Too much tech used the wrong way! OK....i'm done ! lol

Bruce,

You nailed that one.  I doubt if any of these young "phone fiddlers" could say it in 140 bytes.  Their communication skills are being stunted but that will prepare them for the "Brave New World" where robots will display more body language and facial expressions than humans.

Hi!  Check your email inbox for a special annoucement from this website about our next mini, June 16, when Holly Daugherty Fash and her family are in town.  It's going to be a great time at Bearden's!

Holly Daugherty (Fash)

Oh my gosh - I just discovered this page.  How fun it is to see what everyone is doing.  I generally end up on Facebook to get updates but my friends are mostly family.  Barb, I am so glad you are doing well.  As we get older more things go wrong and it's a pain, literally, to have to get them fixed.  We are blessed with the technology in medicine.  My daughter has to get open heart surgery this summer to replace a valve, and she is only 34, and we have read wonderful things about the surgery.  She will be with us in Cleveland next month so lots of you can meet her and my grandson, Bastian, who lives with his dad in Hawaii.  I know, tough life for him.  We are really excited about this "mini" next month.  We come to Cleveland every couple years to check on my uncle in Vermilion, but generally spend most of our time with him so don't get to RR much.  We want to show my grandson where I grew up so will definitely spend more time in RR this time.  Guess we are going to the "Christmas Story" house in downtown and maybe take in a game, if time permits.  Spending lots of time with my uncle who will be 94 this year - you just never know when the last time will be when they get to be old. We want to sit down with him and talk about WWII, where he was a mortician - interesting stories I bet.  Guess that's all for now - See you next month.  h

Thanks for the thoughts, Holly.  Wish I could be there for the June "mini" but am going up in August.  Hope all goes well w/your daughter for sure.  Enjoy listening to your Uncle also.  Those are regrets Lin & I have as we didn't ask our parents as much as we could have about the past.  In fact, no one knew where twins came from in the family, and my cousin did a family tree on line.  We found out that my Father's father was a twin but the other one died.  No one ever told my Father that, so even he didn't know.  So interesting talking to people and hearing about the good old days, some of which I can still remember with my "Pop Pop."  Take care and enjoy Rocky River.  My daughter took her twins at Xmas to the "Christmas Story" house, and they all loved it.  My son can still remember every word from the movie!  Also, Lin's husband's niece and nephew were extras in the movie and got to go down the slide when filming at Higbee's.  Their Dad worked there at the time.

Coming of age at the Bear's Den

I have some fond memories of Beardens. What about the train and the Beadenburger? I had my first date there as well as my first cigarette and my first drunk.  I was drunk on cheap wine and I haven't been able to face a glass of wine since.  My cigarette addiction lasted 20 years though.  I crunched my Dad's car's fender on one of those posts in the Bearden's parking lot.  I didn't know what to do so I just left the car in our driveway.  My Dad never mentioned it and I never was able to get angry at any of my kid's wrecks as a result.  Who could forget cruising through Bearden's and oogling the girls?  Ah...... yes, that's where I grew up.

Re:  Gary Reis

Gary's wife Nancy wrote to us to let us know that Gary is in the hospital.

"Gary had 4 bypass surgery and I wanted the class to know he is still at Fairview Hospital part of Cleve Clinic system. Could use some cheering up. Anyone dealing with A Fib situations? He is out of rhythm and is waiting for the right drug to help. He is walking and sitting in and out of bed so far.

-His wife Nancy The crazy one At this pt. "

Best of luck to Gary (and to Nancy too!)

If you want to send a card, it should go to:

Mr. Gary Reis, C/O Fairview Hospital 18101 Lorain Avenue Cleveland, OH 44111

Let's keep Gary and Nancy in our prayers.

I'm sure glad that I'm not one of those dead war heros being celebrated today.  I'll just get mine on Veteran's Day.  I'm also glad that I  only had to serve one hardship tour while these young volunteers are serving as many as eight in Iraq and Afganistan.  I've just been thinking about how great life is in America while I am swilling my beer and stuffing my face with a hot dog on this fine Memorial Day.  Have a wonderful holiday.  HaHaHaHaHaHaHa!!!

Linda Peate (Powrie)

It's a bit late but Happy Memorial Day!  Had a neighborhood get-to-gether at my house, so am recovering from all that.  Played 50s & 60s songs & danced like fools.  I am glad that my husband isn't one of those celebrated war heroes.  When he was in the Air Force (he just told me this a couple yrs. ago. It bothered him I think & kept it to himself.) a guy in his squadron asked him if he could take his place in Viet Nam. This was at Christmas & I remember he went to Viet Kong training in Fla  Fred told the guy he couldn't do that because his name came up fair & square. The guy pursued it & their leader said OK.  So the guy went & was killed shortly after.  Fred said it really bothered him because he was supposed to go.  Every Veteran's Day, I thank him & anyone I know who served in any of our wars.  Thank you all...here or deceased!  Don't know if I will be there for June 16.  Nancy: you granddaughters are beautiful. Holly: So glad you are coming "home". Fred: belated happy birthday!

Pancy Natch, as we used to call you!  How are you?  Just popped up there, didn't you?  Do you still live in Fla.? Barb lives in Estero, near Naples & Ft. Myers.  She would love to get together if you live anywhere near.  Kathy Kleist lives near Estero as well.  John, hope you get thru the test.  You do what you have to do.  The testing & injections & surgery I have been thru, I can't stand, but I don't have a choice!  So pray it will all go well.  Nancy W., your grandaughter is just adorable.  I know you're proud!  Have to get ready to make dinner.  Beautiful here in Columbus.  It's 73 deg. then in the 50s at night.  Sooooo perfect.  Barb said it's 93 in Fla. Ugh! Going to see her July 9 till the 25th.
