Larry Gilbert

The Pirate asked me to let you all know he is amazed that people don't know what is planned for the 50th Reunion.  He thought that the 50th Reunion Survey, which describes the night and the event, would make it pretty clear that Friday night is at the Beachcliff Tavern and Saturday night is at the Yacht Club, with a brunch on Sunday.  The yacht club has been completely remodeled, and we are in the clubhouse dining room, but you can't please all the people all the time.

It was/is clear.  The Pirate (as usual) and the Reunion Committee are doing a GREAT job!  The beach banter was about clothing.  I might opt for a Carol Burnett Charwoman dress theme at the Yacht Club but I admit to being just a little bit strange.  And I'm sure I have that in the closet.......

hey, i'm easy, just so we get together,it will be funny and it is alot of work planning, so we hope to see you all that weekend.if you don't think you have the "proper" clothing, wear whatever, we will be looking at you, not your clothes-i hope we have gotten past that years ago.

Yup....Just what Nancy said. As long as we get together...If it's a tent,or the Grand Ball Room at the Astoria ...makes no difference. I know it all works for me!!!!

O.K. guys. As I told Larry, I must have been a B/C student (mostly B by the way) because I am not so bright. I interpreted the survey is would we come if it was at the Yacht Club Sat. nite. Had no idea that meant decision was made. I could care less. But I will say that my older sister's Sat. nite was dressy as opposed to their Fri. nite casual. That's all people wanted to know which I think is fine to ask. I won't think about apparel until I am packing to go to Cleve! But seriously, we all know it doesn't matter but I think we should have some idea of what the committee is planning in regard to that type of thing. Are both nites casual? Fine.  Sat. more dressy? Fine.  Just an idea.

I leave for home on the 23rd of this mo. It will be nice to get back to my house!  But I sure enjoyed no winter snow for sure.

I know some might think they have to show off what they have.  To me, it is about getting together w/our cl

assmates.  It doesn't matter what anyone wears but some think that is what it is about.  Are we the thinnest & best looking?  Who cares!!  I saw things and heard things at the mini-reunions that I didn't like.  We are what we are and that is the way we it is.  Let's just get together and remember some fun and music from high school. Hate that anyone thinkis it is about body shape (which I have hear) or how successful you are.  It is about friends.  Love it!!!

somewhere.......

Phyllis is a "Tuffy" and a fighter...she will be fine.....On a chearfull note....I had an awesome past weekend. If any of you follow country music...you may have heard of the COUNTRY THUNDER events that are held at different locations throught the United States. I fell into a good gig last weekend. Country Thunder was held about twenty miles from me in Florence,Az. I was hired by the production company who puts on the event as a transport driver. My first assignment was to go to the airport and pick up the group DIAMOND RIO and to do what ever was needed to keep them happy. Took them to their hotel and later on picked them up and brought them to Country Thunder and gave them lunch ...took them to the stage and remained with them and escorted them off the stage and to dinner. We had a great time talking about music and some of their gigs. A great bunch of guy's. Took them back to the hotel so they could rest up for a 7:00 am flight.

During my downtime with Diamond Rio, I met Eric Church and sat on a golf cart and chatted with him. Picked up LADY ANTABELLUM from the airport and took them to their hotel.Picked up Toby Keiths band members and brought them to Country Thunder. Sunday I was assigned to the Canadian group HIGH VALLEY. I picked them up at their hotel and spent the rest of the day with them including on stage .We really hit it off together and I received an email from Brad ,the groups leader thanking me for taking good care of them. I met allot of other folks as well but wont bore you with the details. I HAD A BLAST!!  Google Diamond Rio,High Valley and Eric Church as well as Lady Antabellum and check them out!!!

Liberalis Whackotarianism

There is some good news for those of us who have been skeptical of the man made global warming myth.  It seems that scientists have discovered that the earth has been cooling for the past 15 years and satellite images show that the earth has been getting greener, possibly due to the tiny increase in CO2 during that period.  Indeed we are actually living in an age of CO2 scarcity.  Such an important gas to all plant life is only .04% of the atmospere.

Naturally religious fanatics like the Liberalis Whackotarians are upset.  Other closely related religions including Progressive Partisonians and Democrapis Demonologists are also upset.  Man made global warming will be going the same way as the Jonah and the whale and Tower of Babel parables.  But the religious fanatics will never give up their faith.  They want to control your life, raise your taxes and make you drive an electric golf cart.  So we must never give up our search for scientific truth.

Hey, Bruce--Now do we have to treat you like a star at the reunion?  Antebellum is my favorite group!!!  LOVE THEM....

Glad you had such a nice chance to do what you did.  Bet it was a blast.  My son is a Calloway rep in Dallas, & he has gotten to do lots of really neat stuff just from so many connections he has.  Got to meet Arnie Palmer recently & was thrilled.  Remember my parents watching golf & rooting for him.  I just thought he was handsome!!

Fred, nice to see your ranting again!  Love it.  So wishing the best to Phyillis w/yet another set back.  I am sure w/her attitude she will be back soon!

Remember those paper sales at Kensington Elementary School?  Those stacks of newspapers certainly were monuments to Gutenberg's 500 year old printing press.  Who would have guessed that it would all end with the invention of the computer and internet in our life time.  Hard copies of anything are obsolete now even though newspaper, magazine and text book publishers, as well as the post office, libraries, brick and mortar universities and most retail stores haven't yet fully comprehended the radical shift.  Typewriters, adding machines and old style mechanical cash registers seem liike curious objects belonging in a museum now.  Oddly we are still stuck with the old qwerty layout on our keyboards though.  Who writes letters anymore?

Even though everything can be written in soft copy now it still takes work to learn to read and write effectively.  There is no short cut to learning those skills.  And that is painfully obvious when you read your e-mail and text messages.  Would old Johannes Gutenberg be happy about this or is he rolling over in his grave?

Regarding reunion details (which I'm sure must be always evolving!) I'd like to suggest that these details be posted on this website under "50-Year Reunion".

Wouldn't that be the place most people would look for it?

And, is the committee open to considering daytime activities, such as a beach party, school excursion, or whatever?

Linda Peate (Powrie)

Paul:  Oh my, you are going to be tied up having all those procedures for awhile. But, you'll get the guy who has "changed the least, right????

Phyllis has hung in there & she will this time. I will pray for her. Remember my surgeon nicked my vocal cord during my spine surgery as they go in thru the neck. I couldn't speak in anything but a high voice and after 7 mo. it had to be surgically corrected of course at my expense! So I believe she'll pull herself thru this. Nancy, tell her I said hi. Will send a card.

Now to Alan: I believe people meant a beach party at nite, not during the day, with a bondfire & casual. But whatever the Committee decides will be great. It's not an easy job to pull these things together. Barb used to be on the Committee.

Welcome back Fredster! Another cruise that took you away? Someday you're going to get waterlogged you take so many cruises!!!

Linda, thanks for bringing up my favorite subject, cruising.  We were on a cruise earlier this year and later on we are going on the biggest cruise ship in the world.  Our balcony cabin faces the inside of the ship over-looking a central park with huge trees.

Many people were turned off by the recent problems with Carnival Cruise Lines.  The Carnival Triumph had to be towed across the Caribbean becuase they lost power due to an engine fire. There were reports of sewage in the hallways, non-working toilets, lack of food and air conditioning.  And even though Carnival is my least favorite cruise line, I would have been glad to be aboard that ship, just for the challenge and compensation.

As for being on that Carnival ship that hit the rocks and tipped over killing 31 people, It would depend on the compensation.  No wait, I would have gone just for the fun of it.  At 68 years old I am not afraid of anything anymore.

OK--total change in plans!  Our reunion will be the Malt Shop Cruise.  Wouldn't it be great to hear all the oldies by the singers themselves?  Sounds great.

Instead of worrying about where the reunion is and what people are wearing (I as always will wear what I want), let's pray that Phyllis recovers enough to be there!

My grandkis are my main source of inspiration lately.  They have a newer fresher view of the world.  Collin, age 11  said,  "What's your favorite word, Grandpa?  Mine is miscellaneous!"  I couldn't answer on the spot but I had to agree that I like the way "miscellaneous" rolls off the tongue.  After another few bites of dinner I said, "Rendezvous is my favorite word.  It meens meeting,  but it implies much more than that.  I also like ubiquitous."

I didn't go into details but my mind drifted to some  exciting rendezvous'.  Imagine a kod riding several miles across town on a bike at 2 am, some pebbles thrown at a window and an amorous embrace in a rec room.  Years later there would be some non stop 1000 mile car treks to some amazing rendezvous.

Yes, RENDEZVOUS is my favorite word.   Thanks Jim Mc.

All excellent words!  Mr Burford would be proud, especially since you are passing on vocabulary skills to your grandkids.  Helping bring up the grandkids is a big part of our "job" these days!

How about movies?  My favorite movie is "Groundhog Day".  Bill Murray finds himself in a repeating loop of the same day, and goes through what appears to be the Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Anger stages of "grief" about it, before Acceptance, where is becomes a piano virtuoso, and learns everything about everyone, including what HE can do for them.  Life is a lot like that.    Maybe what we can do for others and what we can learn in life is more important that our problems.  Maybe turning more outward and less inward is a key to being happy.  I think I'll go watch it again.
