John, also in that area was the old Rocky River Pharmacy in which Bruce Bruehler's father was the pharmacist.

I think it was across from the old City Hall.

Also at the end across from the Westlake was Beach & Colahan's TV store.

More than remember the pizza place (alas not the name).  I hung out there like weekly, pizza or no.  Many of us were there

I remember the tv store across from the Westlake also.  My dad took me with him when he bought a tv there.

But Ingersolls was my favorite haunt with my dad.  He must have gone weekly for supplies for one home project or another and I was always ready to go with.  I loved the smell and wandering around with my dad (at least pre-teen years).  I still love to wander around the hardware store.  I'm way too easily entertained!  But...I think there were some practical home-handy lessons in all those trips to Ingersolls for which I am now very grateful!

The story about Ingersoll's closing is supposedly this:  The decision to close was made, ACE Hardware was notified and they bought the stock and the store.  They are moving their new operation down the street about a half mile (west), right across the street from St. Christopher's, in what was once the Zucker Marine store, then a couple other things.  Time marches on....

John, I am pretty sure the pizza shop was Jerry's Pizza.  We called it the Pie House back then. And the nun in 7th grade was Sister Mary Anna (again I am pretty sure).  I was in her class and she made me a nervous wreck. My mom and dad were in the back yard arguing over it - my mom wanted to take me out of St Chris. My dad was upset with her since we lived next door to the convent and he was afraid the nuns would hear.  All I know is Sister Mary Anna was in class the first half of the year and gone the 2nd half.  Never saw her again.

Any of us that our local check todays Plain Dealer. My old neighbor Tom Gdovin, class of

'65 I think was just awarded the Silver Star for his heroics in Vietnam. He was wounder

three times during his tour, and once carried wounded comrade to safety ignoring his

              wounds.

He received the Silver Star and Vietnam Cross for Gallantry in Washington D.C. on

              Tuesday.

A long time coming and well deserved.

Mike, was Tom Gdovin "Whitey" back in the day?

11/10/11 03:40 PM #1137

Robert (Mike) Kelley

No, Whitey was his older brother Greg, who was the oldest in the family. Tom was third from the top. I know he got shot up when he was over there, but I never heard about his heroics. Still a great guy today, and I proud to know him.
