Holly Portz (Koiro (1945-2023))

 Hey Bruce.

Hope you are having a very Happy Birthday today.  Being that you are older than most of us, you must have been wiser and more mature than us in high school!  Seriously, you have become an admirable fellow.   I'm happy to hear that your wife is doing well.  That must be your best birthday gift of all.

Enjoy your special day and a great 67th year.   Holly

Once knew a girl named Holly,

Who made my heart so jolly,

I know it's a folly,

To ask my lost dolly,

But I would beg on my knees,

If we could have Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Alan:  I am sooooooooo sorry I forgot your birthday.  (I did, didn't   I  ????)  Anyway, our computer was not working because the laptop just wasn't letting us get emails & go online at times, etc.  So I think we now have it fixed.  Hope you had a great birthday!  Wish I had been there to celebrate.

Congratuatiions, Nance:  Your grandson is a cutie & obviously very bright.  Take that pride & wear it well!

We only have till April 13 & then we have to go home.  It went so fast.  Of course I had to go home for 2 wks. to my neurosurgeon when the dog yanked me & I fell on the concrete outside!  And not one neighbor came to see how I was.  They must all be from New Jersey as that's how it is up there if you fall.  They get made they have to walk around you.  And yes, I fell up there because we were going to a play, no street lights, & the sidewalk dropped off & my high heels just bent in half & down I went.  I was a mess after that fall.  Bleeding, torn stockings & very sore. But at least there were so many people you couldn't see my legs!  Only the waist up as I was in a sea of humanity.  And the couple walking behind us were annoyed because they had to walk around me.   I should have sued.  I was so happy to move back to Ohio & be a midwesterner again.  They don't understand the mentality of niceness.  I had the "bird" flipped at me so many times--mostly because they don't like you to go the speed limit!!!!

Bruce:  So glad you're going to be coming to Ohio in Sept.  We'll definitely make it up there. Hope your wife is doing well.

 Hi Classmates,

Just thought you'd all like to know that Debbie and I just "survived the tsunami in Maui 2011" this week.

We arrived in Maui on Thursday and were awakened Thursday night by a banging on our door and someone telling us that a tsunami was coming and we had to evacuate the resort property.  A half hour later were were parked outside an elementary school with hundreds of other people waiting to see what was happening with the approaching wave.

We were there, trying to sleep in our car, from midnight til 7 am.   Three waves hit our area of Maui in approximately 40 minute intervals from 3:30 am til around 5 am.  On the third wave(s) the water receded approximately 500 feet before 7 foot waves came ashore.  There was some flooding and sand, fish, and shells deposited on ocean front streets and yards.  No major damage occurred.

The good news is that the tsunami was much milder than anticipated and everything is OK now.  Looks like there was much more damage in the Santa Cruz, CA harbors and area than in Hawaii.  And, of course, all the damage in Japan.

Take care and hope to see some of you this Summer in Cleveland.

Guy

Guy, glad you were ok.  Were you tempted to surf back to the mainland?  It's good to have you back!

Ellen, great picture!  Who is the young woman, second from the left?

Linda, thanks for the belated wishes!  How horrible that no one helped you when you fell!  What is WRONG with those people!  Good to have you back in Ohio where people care.  I hope there are no lasting effects from the fall, and that the neurologist give you nothing but good news!

I'm starving for a mini-reunion!

Guy,

That's a great story from Maui. We're glad you are both OK. Maui is such a beautiful place. I don't want to see it destroyed before I get back.

Linda Peate (Powrie)

Al:  Thanks for the caring remarks.  I am so unbelievably shocked at how little people care.  Besides feeling like a total idiot sitting in the street, it was even worse that no on cared!!!!

The neurosurgeon ordered an epidural injection where they take fluoro xrays and he watched where the area was causing the pain, then injected as he was watching!  amazing.  I am now feeling better than I've felt in yrs.  I am soooo glad I went home.  It was worth it.  On the airplane, I had a carry on & asked the guy "flight attendant" or whatever he's called if he could help me put my carry on in the bin.  He said, "Oh sorry, our union prevents us from doing that, but I'd be happy to check it for you."  I said, "I am NOT checking this small bag" & I proceeded to bend down in a crippled fashion (& once again, no one offered to help), & began lifting it up as best I could & then the attendant finally helped me last foot to put it in the bin!!!  Nice guy. Anyway, things are just not the same as when we grew up.

Guy, my gosh I have been to Hawaii a couple times & I can't imagine being held captive not having any place to go.  Maui you're sort of stuck!  But I do love Maui.  Beautiful coves everywhere to snorkle & stuff.  Hope you enjoyed some of your time there.  The news just sort of stopped talking about it, & Fred asked me this a.m. whatever happened in Hawaii.  So thanks for the info!!!  L.

Nuclear Morons

"Let's build 6 nuclear plants on an active earthquake fault and tsnami zone. Build them at sea level close to the ocean. And let's build them in close proximity of each other so if one goes into meltdown they all go.  And while were at it make several of them plutonium (the most poisonous substance known to man) reactors for good effect.  Put those back-up generators, fuel and electrical equipment in the basement so they can get nicely flooded out in a tsunami.  Just throw those hor spent fuel rods into a pool of water and forget about them. If the whole complex starts to melt we can dump buckets of water from helicopters and watch the water evapoirate before it hits the ground. Ha Ha Ha! That will make everyone laugh.  And we can always make an extensioin cord a mile long and hook it up to electrical equipment that is full of water. Watch the sparks boys when you make those connections, those containment buildings are full of hydrogen gas. Punch a hole in the roof to let out the radioactive gas! But don't hurry, those rods are only 5000 degrees Kelvin. Ha Ha Ha!"

Update: Radioactivity from Fukashima detected on US West coast, but don't worry everything is under control. Not many people are even talking about apocolypse yet. HaHaHaHaHaHa!!!!

Thankyou for all of you that have kept my wife Marsha,in your thoughts and prayers. We had an apt. with the Oncologist last week and bloodwork and a Petscan revealed no growth or spreading of the cancer. So we will take what we can get...everything staying the same is good news. We will continue to monitor everything about every two months to see whats up.

She feels great, and is still working a full schedule at Chandler Regional Hospital. She  has a great attitude, and we will both fight the good fight thru this. Keep the prayers coming..and again..thankyou all. LIFE IS GOOD !!! I still plan on coming to Cleveland again sometime in September to terriorize all of you. MINI REUNION TIME AGAIN IN SEPTEMBER !!!.Most likely not at the Winking Lizard ...Nancy Westerfield and I will come up with a better place...

Hi Classmates!

Some of my family and I will be traveling this summer. A memorial service in Michigan for a family member and a long-anticipated graduation trip with my beautiful granddaughter, Tenee, and her mother, Cinnamon. We will be in town in early June and are hoping a number of you can save Sunday, June 5, for a no-host picnic in RR Park.

We thought a family get together on a Sunday would be fun with kids, grandkids and friends if they want to come----‘the more the merrier’!  Or just bring youself!!!  We will have the use of the pavilion at RR Park so if the weather isn’t totally cooperative we will still be able to picnic there!

I spent some time there last year and it would be great to spend some time there with you all!!!! Thanks to Larry, Nancy and Al for their help/input for this! I would love to meet your family and have you come and meet mine!

For those of you that haven’t been to RR Park since 196something, here is a link showing all of the improvements that were made in 2006: http://www.rrcity.com/rec/rocky_river_park_improvements.htm   I’ve been there but found this very interesting. It’s a really nice park!

John---it sounds like the sports event is well under way in the planning stages and I hope it is very successful!!!  Somewhere in the memorabilia I have a maroon and white pennant.  Went to every home game and several away games both football and basketball and some wrestling and gymnastics.  Yelled myself horse from jr hi thru HS.  Don't know where I'll be then but it sounds like a fun event!

to all our classmates, i hope you will try and attend this picnic-do any of you remember when the fireworks were held on the beach,i came home with all the gun powder all over my arms-it was for r.r. days. i remember winning an event and got a coin dollar-i was so thrilled.who else remembers those days-my sister&brothers walked to the beach everyday and swam.those really were the days.then i took my grandkids for picnics since they were babies, then my husband when he was so sick, and my sisters who still went on picnics with me. we really were so lucky to have a great park like this. anybody can contact me about this picnic-i'm helping ellen and have been in contact with her. nancy

OK...I need some help with this. Since I am really lame when it comes to computers. All your postings have a good part of the right side hidden, and I can't  seem to be able to drag it over to read everything. Thank you...
