Marty Robbins!

Try this one:  "Lead us not into temptation, Bless this hour of meditation, Guide him with eternal love."  Who was the artist?

Sept. 11 will always be a terribly sad day for me. I was teaching in my Holmdel NJ elementary school when someone saw the news as it was happening on the library tv and told all of us. As it turned out eight precious children in our school lost parents that day. My community was about 40 miles south of NY City on the Raritan/Sandy Hook Bay and many parents commuted there every day. We knew by lunch time that several of our students had lost parents, but after school teachers rode the buses home with all the children to make sure that there was someone at home. Our area lost many people that day. I personally taught with a teacher who lost her brother-in-law, walked with a friend who lost her son-in- law, worked with a woman who lost her only child, a daughter. Rob and I could see the smoke across the bay and in later years we could see the beautiful blue lights that would shine on 9/11 from  the place where the two buildings had stood before that day. Memorials were built in many communities there to honor the victims of 9/11. Our school and community did what it could to comfort those children the rest of the school year. It has been sixteen years, but that day is vivid in my memory. I pray that we never have another like it.

Have been talking to Barbie practically non-stop since beginning of hurricane. She said it was horrible winds, howling, and she was scared to death.  But my cousin David had generator and they had food plus he had a charger in his car to she could charge her phone.  She has now been able to return home and praise God, she had no damage and no water which truly is a miracle.  Our place has alot of water running down the street, but I don't think we got water in our garage as driveway slightly slanted.  Many others did not fair so well. She and Fred and I live in Estero.  Barbie was in the best place and stayed safe, just scared to death along w/David's wife who was the same way.  We pray for those who have lost everything.

Cheryl:  What a lovely tribute.  Thanks for sharing!

Barbie:  We are all grateful that you and Darcy are safe and reasonably unscathed.

There are a variety of places to donate/support for the current, multiple hurricane relief that is needed. My fav place is the Salvation Army. I know they've gotten some bad press lately but I can tell you from experience---if you walk in their door in need, they won't turn you away no matter who you are.  I've seen it.  There's a family connection with the S.A. for me, but it's the work they do with real people in need that I have experienced that sells me on this organization.  Again, if you are in need they aren't going to stop and ask about your politics.  They also don't over pay their staff in any way.  The S. A. has specific emergency disaster services that are currently providing a variety of relief in the hurricane-stricken areas.  Check it out:   https://disaster.salvationarmyusa.org

If you have other, favorite places to support, please share them with us here on the Message Forum!

"Lead us not into temptation, Bless this hour of meditation, Guide him with eternal love." The song title is "The Three Bells." Anyone know who the artists were?  (Hint:  There were 3 of them singing together)

09/18/17 04:02 PM #3008

Clark Smyth

Then it can't be then The Four Freshman, or The Jackson Five, or The Four Tops, The Wee Six, or The Smothers, or The Bave Brubek Quartet.

Ellen Aspinwall (Templar)

You're correct, Clark!  It's none of those.  Got an idea of who it is?

09/19/17 02:11 PM #3010

Clark Smyth

Just a wild guess: Elvis, Johnny Cash and Dion?

ROFL Clark!  What a combo that would be!  But, too funny!

09/20/17 10:38 AM #3012

Bruce McKelvey (McKelvey)

That would be Jim Ed Brown and the "Browns" who did that song......

09/20/17 12:58 PM #3013

Ellen Aspinwall (Templar)

Bravo, Bruce!  And the Old Lamplighter and the Browns were still at it in 1999.

09/22/17 06:19 PM #3014

Ellen Aspinwall (Templar)

Gonna disqualify Bruce from this one because he really does know all the answers. So....Complete this sentence and you'll have the song title:  "After breakfast every day, she throws a warning glance my way and never fails to say _____________________"

We need your assistance with our email list. We now have 8 email addresses that have bounced back. That means those 8 people have changed their address and we no longer have the ability to stay in touch with them. When your email address changes, please change it on your profile----or----email Al or Ellen and let us know it has changed and we'll change it in your profile for you. If you read this and know your address has changed, please update here. We want to stay in touch with you!

Now....name that tune: "Knocked once, tried to tell them I've been there. Door slam! Hospitality slim there."

Is it "Green Door," Elllen?

09/27/17 04:18 PM #3021

Ellen Aspinwall (Templar)

Yes, Barbie!  It is "Green Door."  Now, who knows the name of the recording artist???  No googling or youtubeing.....

09/29/17 11:16 AM #3022

Linda Peate (Powrie)

So now I guess eveyone knows Barbie is moving back to Cleveland from Florida!  She will be closer to me here in Columbus, which will be great.  We are so close that it's been hard to be separated all those months when I am not in Florida or she's only up for a month or so in the summer!  She can come down and visit when she's up here in the winter!  The heat got to her in the summer.  It's just way too hot during those summer months down there.  Fred went once in Juy and played golf early in the morning, but quit after 9 holes!!  He said, "never again"!  Barbie will be living in Westlake as of Nov 14!

The RRHS class of 1957 had an unexpected party-crasher last night---me! My brother graduated with them that year and wasn't able to make it here for their 60th class reunion!  So he sent me.  What a gracious group they are as they just included me in everything. And what fun to sit with some of my youthful crushes---they are hysterical still!  The class wants to stay in touch for a 65th so I've sent them information about Class Creator which is our host for this class website. If you've ever thought about crashing the reunions of other classes I recommend it.

Now if someone just knows the answer to this question:  Who knows the name of the recording artist of "Green Door?"

10/05/17 09:38 AM #3024

Ellen Aspinwall (Templar)

Bruce:  Since no one has chimed in on the latest music quiz question, we're going to call on our vintage music expert.  That would be you!  Can you name the recording artist of "Green Door" and maybe the year it was numero uno?

10/06/17 10:58 AM #3025

Bruce McKelvey (McKelvey)

Jim Lowe.....year unknown. Late 50s...Early 60s.

10/06/17 01:15 PM #3026

Ellen Aspinwall (Templar)

Yes!  Jim Lowe. You are close enough on the year with late 50s--it was 1956!

Ok, music fans, here's one more:  The Duprees recorded "You Belong To Me."  What city does this song refer to in the lyrics?
