Mary is a sweetheart.  She is always welcome, and I hope you will bring her to the August 4th Class Happy Hour at Bonefish Grill Westlake!

Hi!  I have been watching the Republican Convention all week. Last evening (Wed) the color guard that began the speeches was announced as a Boy Scout troop from Rocky River, Ohio. The young men did a wonderful job. I felt very proud. It has been wonderful to see how good downtown Cleveland looks.  My best to all of you.

Cheryl, thanks for pointing that out!  I watched but was not aware of that.

"A member of the Rocky River Boy Scout Troop 605 Colorguard holds an American flag during the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Cleveland, Ohio, U.S., on Wednesday, July 20, 2016."

Well, I never talk politics because you can't win and let me say I have voted Democrat once.  However, if some certain woman is elected, we can kiss this country as we know it goodbye!  And I hope we all will enjoy paying 34% taxes, which doesn't include your state tax. Heard financials and if you make $190,000, by the time you're taxed, you will pay almost half in taxes so you're take-home would be $90,000. Don't know about those who support her, but hope you're making lots of money so you're take-home will compensate for the taxes! Greece couldn't make it work, so who thinks it will work here?  Socialism? Our forefathers are turning over in their graves.  This country will soon run out of money to support govt. programs, then what?  That's all I'm saying.  Worried sick, and I will never speak of it again.  Costa Rica anyone?  Now, all our classmates who are staunch Dems hate me about now, but oh well.  Couldn't bottle it up anymore. Bruce, do I get support here???? Some classmates get nasty on facebook from what I have been told.  That's so silly that some Dems don't understand the severity of this whole thing. They think it's not Socialism.  Govt controlling every aspect of your life is Socialism.  And we can talk about anything on this site so don't "scold" me!

Linda....you have my support 100%

Linda well said!  I believe my friends are truly my friends and even if I don't agree or understand their politics, they are still my friends.  This country has been divided enough, my friends I respect, if the rest of this country would do this we would have far less problems and discourse.

I too support you Linda, and your feisty sister as well.  And Mike is right also.  When a Conservative and a Liberal cannot discuss these issues without profanity and name-calling, they are blocking off friendships, as well as the opportunity to learn from each other.  Thoughtful discussions on both sides are a wonderful thing.  Bring your evidence!  Have a discussion!  But stay calm.

There are those who would seek to profit from this division of people.  It is up to us to stay connected.  Family, Friends, and Classmates.

Linda Peate (Powrie)

Thanks Al and Mike and Bruce!.  Honestly, what happened to the great way we grew up?  I never even worried much when Bill Clinton was Pres.  But look how divided this country is & Obama has encouraged it.  But Hill is definitey going to make Obama look conservative.  And am sure Bill can't wait to get back in the White House so he can have his moments w/interns again & Hill will be too busy to know or care! ("I did NOT have sex w/that woman"!)  We don't stand a chance because she's giving away free stuff all the way to the W.H. and the illegals, blacks and those who hate to work will be chauffered to the polls on Election Day. And four yrs. of that voice.  TORTURE!  Done for sure this time!!!

Certainly someone can ID the background picture???!!!

I agrer, this freedom of speech,we can say what we want, without getting bad at each other.

08/16/16 09:30 AM #2755

Barbara Peate (Sabo)

Right on........or "defriending" someone on Facebook for their point of view.  Ludicrous.  We all have viewpoints and, Nancy, as you say freedom of speech and also opinions.  It doesn't mean you cannot be friends with someone that disagrees with you.  I am sad the way this country has changed and people have been pitted against each other.  Oh to go back to the times when life seemed so much easier and politics wasn't "in your face 24/7."  I feel badly to see what will happen in the years ahead for our grandchildren.  Martin Luther King must be rolling over in his grave.

By the way, Ellen, the answer is "no."  LOL

Bruce McKelvey (McKelvey)

Here is my two cents on this political thing. We were friends long before any of us gave a shit about that. So lets just get over ourselves....and as Hank Williams Jr. said. " CANT WE ALL JUST GET ALONG NECK." ?

08/16/16 12:08 PM #2758

Brian McKeown

Completely agree!!  We should be able to argue/debate the merits (or lack of) just about anything without getting personal toward each other. Passionate, yes.  Angry, no.  The friendships are long and deep...and must be kept.

The problem lies with those who take a stance and think anyone who doesn't agree wi them is an ass.  More creedence and respect needs to be given to others opinions.

We grew up in a time when politics was serious...as serious as life and death to individuals...Vietnam, riots, and so on. For me...The difference now is, we are talking about the life and death of our country.  To me, it's THAT serious.  As a father and grandfather, I truly want to leave the world a better place than I found it for my heirs.  I don't mean a meal ticket for life...but I DO mean a world where their effort will mean something to them and not just go into the pot of money that supports the current 47% of the US population on government  assistance.  I do not want to see us become like Europe where enclaves of any race are allowed to set their own laws and ignore the laws of the United States or the state they reside in.  Where it's perissable for men to have youg male and female sex slaves with  the permission being given by their religous leader.  Where it's OK to vote if you are not a legal citizen of this country.

For far too long, any real debate has been stiffeled by polittical correctness. We really need to pull our collective heads out of the sands of "OH, I can't say that because it might offend!" or "You cant wear that color because it offends me."  What about the truth?? Is there none?? Somewhere the facts exist...without political spin. But, oh, ya...we're not capable of making our own decisions.  They must be made for us so we don't hurt ourselves.   If you don't believe how out of touch we, as a country are, just ask Brits, Irish, Canadians what is going on in the US.  I'm willing to bet they know a bunch more what's happening here than most of us...because what happens in the US...has BIG consequences around the world and it drastically effects their way of life.  Most of us know nothing but the headlines about those countries.  I know a bit of history...but nothing current.  Being recently retired, I'm still trying to catch up on what's happen here with MY OWN thoughts instead of just echoing a party line on half-assed information.

I hope we will evolve from "PC" to "DISCUSSION and REASONABLE CONCLUSION someday.

It would be a GIANT step toward actually functioning.

Sorry for the rant.                                     no, I'm not.

Hi Guys!

We have had several of our Class of '63 Happy Hours, very successfully.  So far they have been at the Bonefish Grill.  I think it would be great if we could try other favorite spots.  Does anyone have some recommendations for places near Rocky River that have

1.  Good food

2.  Room enough for us

3.  A good Happy Hour?

Please let me know where you might like to meet!

Leave it to you, Al, to jump in to change the subject!  Great job, Brian, of saying what so many people think! Very succinctly said, and what will happen when someone really should be prosecuted for lying, perjury, etc. You, me or anyone else would be hearing the grand jury call our name!  What has happened that someone like this is just revered???  I am left wondering how anyone can think a liar and someone who maintains funds in a private foundation just so they can "give speeches" and collect millions can be pushed as a person perfect for our country's leadership when other countries are laughing at us!  What percentage actually goes to the places they are supposedly helping?!  At least Chelsey's wedding & college are paid off now!

Houlihan's, Al!  And that place at Clague and Detroit that keeps changing names.

Well...the background picture is from home-sweet-home.  Any guessers now?

Ellen, That place is Felix and Oscars.  I went there and was not very impressed.  I am thinking maybe the Yard House for our next one to mix it up a bit.

Linda, I did not intend to "interrupt you"!  We had a comment or two that the Bonefish was a little pricey.  It probably would not hurt to use other places too, regardless.  And by the way, the next one will be September 8th, at the Yard House, also in Crocker Park, just south of the Bonefish Grill.

Pat, I agree that this should not become a "primarily political" board.  But these political things are also important to people, so I would think "limited portions" might be ok.  Still, we do not want to lose people because of political postings.  Moderation in all things, perhaps.

It is good to hear from you.  I hope you will post here more, and I hope we can see you at the Yard House.

Al, I was told that the wine bar in Rocky River has a private room that they don't charge for, also Beach Cliff Tavern has a private room as well.
