Barbara Peate (Sabo)

I can remember going to get the tree with my Dad and our Mom never being happy because it wasn't the best one on the lot!  Of course she never went with us to get it either, but we three girls always thought it was the best.  We would put the radio on and decorate the tree while my Mom baked cookies in the kitchen.  We would snitch some sugar cookie dough when we could!  Remember the bulbs that bubbled.....they got too hot and took them off the market, but those were my favorite.  Regarding the movie "Christmas Story" my son watched it so many times that he still knows all the words to this day!

Hope all will keep Lin's husband in their prayers.  I feel so badly that I am not up in Ohio to support Lin as this is such a tough time for them.  Fred has suffered for years but never ever complains.  He is such a wonderful man, and I hate that he has to go through this.  Hoping all of this will be settled by Thanksgiving time.  Prayers for Holly also as she goes through a tough time again.

My son flew me to Dallas to help with the kids (Reese, 4 & Kylee, 7) as his wife was out of town all week.  I didn't want to leave of course.  They are so cute but boy what hectic schedules....nothing like when we were young or even when my kids were growing up.  Loved being able to spend one-on-one time with them.  Derron and Wendi were able to go out two nights in a row while I watched my little ones.  So fun.....Reese isn't a snuggler unless she is tired and for sure not when Mommy is around, but Kylee loves to snuggle so we did a lot of that.  Wish they weren't so far away......I think how lucky Everlynnie is having hers next door.

Right you are Barb.....so lucky to have my kiddos right next door.  They moved here when they were two and five and now they are 11 and 13 (almost 14).  So, I have seen the progression day by day of their growing up.  Our houses are only six feet apart, so they can bop over anytime at all.  We always sing "through the garage and up two stairs to Grandmother's house we go"......

I would just like to take a moment to thank everyone who showed up for the "Geriatric Silliness" October 10th,11th,and for the impromptu Tuesday night at Herbs. I am so glad this thing has taken off from me just calling a few people up six years ago when I was in town to get together for a Burger and a beer.

I think by now that we all realize how important this is that we all do this by the amount of classmates who are no longer with us. Loosing Lynn Holiday was a perfect example as she planned to be there on Friday night. I am sorry I never really knew anything about her. I made it a point this visit to try and spend time with someone who I did not know very well in High School. It was nice to get to know a little bit about Sara Eakin. What a delightfull and articulate person...very classy Lady. Great talking to Linda Peate as I never get to spend much time with the "Twins"cuz there such social butterflies. Lynn and I were the last ones to leave on Saturday night along with Sara.

I am looking forward to the 70th Birthday Bash next September... but you guy's missed my 70th last Marsh 5th . We can thank T.Allen Huffman my 6th grade teacher that loved me soo much that he had me for 6th grade again. Something about me being to confrontational. The up side to that was I got to go to Camp Cheerful twice.  There is absolutely nothing wrong about being 19 when you graduate !!!   Again... thanks to all of you who cared enough to show up !  LET THE GOODTIMES ROLL !!!!!

Sadly I must share that Lin has to undergo another (her 8th) back surgery.  She has been in pain for months again, and they discovered she has another herniated disc.  As they say, twins feel each others pain, and I do.  We were all excited to be together in Florida for Thanksgiving as my children and grandchildren will be coming.  As it turns out, Lin's surgery is Nov. 10th, and she can't fly until Dec.  Fred is also suffering from his Chrohn's disease and he, too, might face surgery.  We are praying he doesn't have to, but he won't know until Nov. 13th when he finally has an appointment with his doctor (first he could get in).  The surgery for Lin isn't as bad as the others that required hardware to be put in, so hopefully she will have a speedier recovery.  Nancy, not sure when your surgery is but will be praying for you.  Please keep Lin and Fred in your prayers......thanks.

Nancy, I had the surgery you had albeit years ago.  It actually feels so much better when it's over as there is less pain than what you experience now.  Don't be afraid as it will all work out well.  Assume you will have to do therapy also.  Mine was at home, which is different now.  I just kept doing the exercises off and on all day to get myself better.  Being alone, you don't want to fall or anything, so if you are more comfortable being with friends than do it.  Trust me, you will be so happy!!  Love ya....Barb

Best of luck to both of you, Linda and Nancy.  Too bad we have to have all this going on at our young ages!

At least we all have family and friends looking out for us.  All the best to you both!

Linda Peate (Powrie)

My we are getting old, Alan.  I just hope my back is finally healed after this.  Doc will fuse the disks at the base of my spin, so it should be good finally.  How the disk herniated is a mystery to me & my doc.  I have done nothing to have caused it except rehab therapy.  That made it feel worse so I stopped & finally got into my neurosurgeon & there it was on the MRI.  Thinking positively that healing will begin & be the LAST!!!!!

Nancy, praying all comes out OK.  Things have changed alot since Barb had that surgery.  So my best for you.

On Halloween it was actually slightly snowing w/the rain!  Poor little ones were freezing.  Have sooooo much leftover candy.  And I found mini Bun candy bars at Gordon Foods.  I haven't seen those since I was a kid.  Love, love, love them!  Not good.  I cant stop eating them!!

Linda,

I have been remiss in keeping up on the "Message Forum".  Sorry to hear your Fla trip is going to be postponed for the operation.  Hope you heal fast and get back down here as we need to start planning a "Florida Classmates MinnI-Reunion"

Linda and Barb: I have been away from the computer for a while and am very sad that you have to have another surgery. I will definitely keep both of you in my prayers and may God give you a speedy recovery. Again I am really sorry to hear that and will keep you in my prayers. Good Luck and May God Bless You Both. Please keep our resident twins in your thoughts, meditations and prayers.  They are both currently facing more medical issues and all positive input their way will be helpful, I know.

Thanks to a Veteran-friend for this:

THE FINAL INSPECTION
The Soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

'Step forward now, Soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?'

The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
'no, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills just got too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.

I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the Soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

'Step forward now, you Soldier,
You've borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell.'

So, Lin is home and so far her foot and leg are not numb.   YEAH!  We will keep our fingers crossed and say some more prayers as she heals.  Her husband will be put on a new medication to help alleviate the pain and problems with his Chrohn's disease.  He is looking forward to this as he has been on sterioids that have been tearing up his stomach.  Let's remember Nancy also as she undergoes her surgery on Monday.  Nancy, as I said, you will be so happy you did it and think you will find the pain after will not be as bad as the pain before.
