Merry Christmas, and happy Solstice from the land of the big ice storm.  It is beautiful and trecherous and scary as all get out.  At least we still have our electricity!

Merry Christmas from my first one in the sunshine state.  It's 80 degrees and sunny.  Very different than all the slush I am used to!!  Lin, Judy & I spending the day together.  My kids going skiing and Judy's kids couldn't come down, so the old folks will be together!!

Happy Holidays to all from Indianapolis.  Once again remembering the wonderful  reunion.  Also, asking for you to think and pray for my 28 year daughter Carolyn who is now in a nursing home with orthopedic issues - she has had 8 spine surgeries, 1 failed hip surgery, and a knee surgery.  A degenerative issue that is being carefully studied by specialists.  A hip inpingement may be the biggest issue.  I could write for hours but will not,  you can see pictures of her on my profile.

Beautiful with a special personality:  if her younger days did Magazine covers, TV, recording studio singing, violin and was quite the local little celebrity.  Lived in Vail and Steamboat Springs for 10 years and has now lived with us for 6 months.  As of 10 days ago can no longer walk.  Did ski - none of these issues caused by accidents - we are told.  You might look up Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail - that is where 6 of her back surgeries took place - home medical team for many of the world's greatest atheletes (including) - name escapes me the the gal skier who is the USA hope for a gold medal.

Hoping this is temporary and surgeries will fix.  3 hour MRI yesterday in the top of the line Siemens MRI.

Well, that says it all.  Merry Christmas.  Thank God for my wife Donna.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!  Hope I can recover in the next few months.  Barb in her condo 5 min. away thank goodness.  First time we will be apart since birth when I leave in April.  Difficult to imagine.  May the New Year bring blessings & hope where we seem to feel there is none.  I have been there & life always opens a door when one closes.

Just wanted to share...if you watch the Rose Bowl Parade today...my wonderful family donated a rose in my honor on the Donate Life Float!  So say a little prayer for all donors and recipients and me!  when you see that float go by.

Don't forget to eat your blck-eyed peas!

Just read in today's PD Obits that Tom Duke passed away several days ago. He was planning to attend the

reunion, but was too ill to attend. He was very  involved with the AFS program as well as a Government

teacher at RRHS. He was 79.

Agin, Happy New Year everyone!

pat, i can't believe he was only 11 years older than me, he seemed so old in school,i guess in those days when you were younger, you still looked older. sorry about his passing.

01/12/14 05:30 PM #2011

Lynn Jaenke (Erb)

I agree with Nancy...I was surprised he was only 11 years older than us.  I guess anyone who was a teacher seemed old to us.  Even Miss Schrock, who couldn't have been very old.....just cranky!  And I remember her sitting on her desk, crossing her legs and looking very, well, grown up.

Lynnie (Evie): You are so right as well as Nancy.  I loved Mr. Duke. Sure he thought I would never even be able to find a voting machine, let alone what government was!!  Don't think Schrock was more than just right out of college.Gave me not very good grades, but I went on to college & took 2 more yrs. & got straight A's.  Hmmmm wonder if it was the teacher?!  Always wondered why she had to intimidate the girls & was so cranky & NOT just once a month. She still was when she was in Medina! I would have loved to ask her why she was so crabby, BUT...I was too intimdated!!!!

Hope the New Year is off to a good start for everyone. Holly, the rose was so special from your family.  Sitting next to you in our room on my bed eating pizza, I just thought how lucky you were & what a gift you were given from some other family.

Bruce McKelvey (McKelvey)

The last time I saw Tom Duke was at a Class Reunion (40th maybe) I walked up to him and I asked if he remembered me and he replied in his dry manor: " How could I ever forget you McKelvey"  Good guy...saddened to hear of his passing. BTW...had dinner last night with Mike Callahan and his daughter Elizabeth .....they were in Phoenix for a few days...had a great time....

I was so sorry to hear about Tom Duke!  He was a gentle soul and an all-around good guy.  He had a wonderful love of teaching and of students (in spite of our behavior!).  He changed my life, and I will miss him!  Rest in Peace, Tom.
