Fred Thomas

Little did we realize it at the time in high school that we were being set-up for a boring middle class lifestyle of hard work and paying taxes.  Those bills, mortgages, grass, broken cars and house repairs were the dread of many a suburbanite.  How did you like sacrificing to pay for your kid's college education?  I had three children in college at the same time!

Luckily I am loaded now and live in a gated community where illegal aliens do all the work.  There are plenty of tax loop holes for me to jump through so I don't pay taxes anymore.  Working and paying taxes are for all those suckers in the middle class.  But even though I am in the upper crust now, the Obama Administration wants to make us pay some taxes.  So, I may have to give up my American citizenship and move to our luxury condo in the Cayman Islands.

How fair is that?  I could have been a welfare sluggard my entire life and lived a life of leisure if I hadn't been brain washed by those teachers at Rocky River High School.  WE DON'T NEED NO EDUCATION, MAILMAN WHERE MY GUBBERMANT CHECK?!  I wouldn't have had to work or pay taxes my whole life.  I could have gotton welfare, food stamps and 49,000 other hand outs from the Federal Government for poor people.  I could have sent my kids to college free on Pell Grants.  Bwany Fwank wanted to make the banks give all us poverty types a free house.  And since all those do-gooder Churches and agencies hand out free food and clothes, I could have traded my food stamps in for better drugs and guns.

You all may yearn for the lifestyle of a one percenter like me but I dream of the lifestyle of an American homeless welfare bum.

I figured it is time for a Top Ten List of reasons it was 'good' to have gone to RRHS and graduated in 1963 and a few 'wishes for those years'.

This is after trying to read Fred's post and enjoying all the birthday celebrations.

This is being written about 2 miles from where Dave Letterman went to high school and where he worked as a kid.

#10 - I think I was rich back then

#9 - I look at all the recent pictures on this site and it is wonderful to know all of our grandparents are still living (lol)

#8 - The lake I cut school to water ski on is still there - I sucked by the way

#7 - Mr. T - is still alive - I hear

#6 - I believe we were safe cuz there was a NIKE site near us ( was that a missile)

#5 - I think the water was good cuz my Dr. now says I am 6' 1"  - and I was 6' at RR and weighed 139 pounds

#4 - A shame there was no ProActive in 1961-63

#3 - Is the drum I played back then still there - if so - it would be worth something now

#2 - The  buiding was brick and that meant we were all safe from the 'weather'

#1 - And the top reason it was good to have gone to RRHS (even if for 2 years) - I was not bullied in anyway, now that I think about it!!!!   Wow - how cool is that.

Best to all my classmates.  Indianapolis (as many of you have experienced) has been dangerously hot.  Hope all have survived.

PAUL

paul, love your 10 best things about rr, and the eleven one is for now -we still can have fun and try to stay in contact, no matter what state we are in, and seem to have as much fun now as we all get older.

Happy birthday to the two cutey pie twins.  Watching them walk down the RRHS hallway always made my day.

Fred Thomas

Yer right Bruce!!

It was those cute size four penny loafers that I was looking at.  They were sooo sexy!!  I always wished that I could insert a new penny into the slot but I never had the guts to ask.

Linda Peate (Powrie)

Fred: You always put a smile I my face! I remember those shoes. In grade school we wore grey suede ones & I can see them on my feet. Then in hi school, loafers plus Spauldings (saddle shoes)--but they had to be brown & white, not black & white!  Just like we had to wear brown hockey skates at Winterhurst!  How cool we thought we were!!

By the way, I remember being in class & some guy (seriously don't remember who he was as it was a study hall) used to drop his pencil so he could look up girls' skirts. Now there's a new idea no one thought of! Anyway, I think it was Sally Oblinger (maybe not though) who one day put a note pasted to her knee that said, "Like what you see"! I though that was so funny. He never did it again, but Sally was so cute that she probably destroyed him forever! That's the closest he got to a girl was maybe looking up her skirt!!

JOHN DAWSON--YOU ARE DOING AN AWESOME JOB W/THIS FALL THING. I just wanted to thank you because I know it's tough to jump in & start something from scratch. Been there, done that!  SOME OF US FORGET TO THANK THE LEADERS!!!   SO HOORAY FOR YOU JOHN!!!

THANK YOU FOR ALL OF THE BIRTHDAY WISHES FROM SO MANY CLASSMATES!   CELEBRATION LIMITED TO GOING OUT TO DINNER TO CELEBRATE BIRTHDAY, PLUS MY 46TH WEDDING ANNIVER. AS WELL DUE TO MY BACK. THOUGH IT'S A GUY'S DREAM TO HAVE A GIRL FLAT ON HER BACK, THE 8" BIG PLASTIC POWDER BLUE BRACE I DON'T THINK WOULD FEEL SO GOOD!!  COURSE THEN A GUY DOESN'T ALWAYS CARE DOES HE????

07/15/12 04:01 PM #1403

Fred Thomas

Lin,

I hope your back is feeling better soon, but you really must do a much FULLER description of that 8" plastic device.  Also it is really despicable that anyone would purposely drop a pencil to have an excuse to look up a girl's dress, but ah...er...,.ah did it ever work?

Save the Lemurs!!!

Some 90 of the 103 lemur species should be on the endangered list and face possible extinction.  Al Gore and the Alarmists are trying to link this to global warming but all the lemurs that I have talked to say they are really enjoying this warm weather from the sanctuary of their sylvan abodes.

They have told me bluntly though that lenurs everywhere are suffering from acute poverty.  Despite their big eyes and cute furry looks lemurs are quite frankly slow, lazy and unemployable.  But why can't liberals slap together a 500 billion dollar program to alleviate lemur poverty and avert this terrible tragedy of lemur extinction.

Tax the rich overpaid gorillas!!!

Barbara Peate (Sabo)

Thanks for all the birthday well wishes!!!  Lin & I had a glass of wine together to celebrate--then she & Fred went to dinner for their 46th anniversary.  By the way, Fred, I will be happy to take my penny loafters (Weejuns of course) to the next function.  You may put a coin in them if you still wish.  Hope the coin is bigger than a penny due to inflation!  Don't believe a walk down the hall at RRHS would look the same on the twins now though.  Oh the good old days!!

Barb

07/17/12 09:41 AM #1407

Fred Thomas

Barb,

I'm sure that you and Lin would still look good promenading down the RRHS hallway in your cashmere sweaters, pleated skirts and penny loafers.  But if the rest of us got on that walkway the concrete floor might start to crumble under the extreme tonnage.  We took our parent's warnings literally, "Clean your plates because they are starving in China."

I learned a lot more in the Army than I did in college or high school.  Training to handle automatic weapons was more useful than calculus, physics or even geometry.  I could safely disarm a landmine, negotiate a gas field or kill someone with a fork or a bare wire.  But what good are sociology, psycology or the history of art?  We ate bugs, edible wild plants, C-rations that were 20 years old and purified our own water.  So what practical use is chemistry or biology?  I was taught how to work on sophisticated crypto communications equipment, radio teletypes and motor vehicles.  I learned to supervise and lead troops, visited 29 foreign countries and learned to converse in several languages.  What good was the Latin I took for four years?  Why take history?  I saw history being made daily at the frontier of the American Empire.  I didn't need a course in cultural anthropolgy as one imbeded in foreign cultures.

The Army paid me to do all those things so why would anyone pay $160,000 to study bullshit like education or liberal arts?  I tell these young whippersnappers to skip college and join the Army.

Fred T: My goodness, was that YOU who dropped the pencil & I just forgot??? BOYS ARE STUPID IN HIGH SCHOOL!!

Barb took a pic of my brace so you can have an exact pic of what I have to wear for 12 wks. It's so comfy & also so stylish, especially if I want to dress up!  If this works, I'm good though.

OK....Now that the Peate Twins are on the mend. We can now proceed with planning the 4 th. Annual Meeting of "GERATRIC SILLINESS" We will try to secure the back room at the BEACHCLIFF TAVERN for this event.  Plan on Saturday night October 6th. Going to try and make this a big party weekend for all who plan on attending the Rocky River football game and festivities that go along with it . Friday night will be an AWESOME tribute to Coach Don Frail and the accomplishments of our football team.

Planning both events for that weekend will make it much easier for folks traveling from out of town/state to be able to have all the festivities on that weekend. I REALLY look forward to this stuff each year. So lets do it while we still can!  Once we get the plans firmed up ...I will submit them to Gilbs to put up on our website. LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL !!!!!
