Brian McKeown

BTW, everyone.  I'm not trying to stir anything up between old friends.  What I said is my opinion based on my observations and reading and a small bit of experience.  It's worth about the same as free medical advice.

One small difference...many of you know I have 1 fairly famous granddaughter.  Very prretty and talented young woman ...close to 18.  After a show, she had one incident of a muslim getting pretty mouthy about the clothes she was wearing.  Her dad was sitting there and as he stood up apparently left an impression with the mouthy one who soon became silent.  Emily's dad is 6'8" and about 275 lbs. and in shape.  I've been to every event since and very close by.  Now, most of her events are pre-purchase tickets only...so it's not quite as dicey.

Again, I'm sorry if I offended or irritated anyone...but I live in real time...in a real evvironment where people are not nice to each other all the time.  I don't live in a make believe bubble of safety that really isn't there.  One son-in-law is a cop who hasn't yet felt the heat of a gun going off in his direction.  The other is a fireman who has recently been shot at while he and his crew were trying to put out a fire that may have been intentionally set to ambush the First Responders who were there to help.  I wish things were a bit less intense....but they're not.  I want to see my family...and my daughters' families enjoy at least the same opportunities we all had to grow up, mature and be as happy in their lives as my wife and I are in our lives.  And, I'll "Guard the Gate" and do whatever I have to do to insure that to the best of my ability, be it with a handshake and a smile...or a gun and a sword...whichever.

I would suggest you look outside the bubble from time to time, just to check and see if the property you inhabit has been violated in one way or another.  Watch out in parking garages and parking lots.  Do your cell phone thing when you're NOT walking across the lot to your car.  Look around. Make eye contact with those coming toward you.  Leave yourself at least 15 ft. between you and the car in front of you so as not to get trapped.  All, or even much of the negative news that happens in high dollar retail areas does NOT GET REPORTED beyond the police department.  It will effect commerce and reputation too much...so it gets squashed to a large extent.  It's not the good old days when none of this heavy duty crap existed for us...no boundries exist anymore.  Not geographical, social, moral, religeous, even legal.   Pay attention.

I haven't been on this site for quite a while due to illness. But I need to install my two cents. I was raised democrat and voted for there wishes my entire life until this election. I spent four years in the military one year of it in Vietnam. I held a top secret clearance while I was in the service. The point being if I talked about of wrote about anything secret, the military had the right to shoot me dead. Had the democrats put some one else in to run for president they would have got my vote. I have had it with the corruption in DC.  Also we are all old enough to remember JFK, who was very much like Mr Trump. I feel JFK was one of our best Presidents. Please excuse me for my grammar and spelling. Lets try and make America Great Again and quit letting money and corruption destroy our great nation.

Thanks for serving our nation, Randy!  And our Vets have been left to fend for themselves and some not even capable.  Washington has forgotten them, and you expressed your opinion so well and that's why so many Democrats voted that way as well.  I already said I voted for a Democrat once.  Thanks for your two cents!  And I hope you are feeling better.

I have by choice decided to remove all my comments regarding political issues. This way others on this site do not have to see them every time they read others messages. My thoughts will never change on these matters and I do not appologise for my views. I am very passionate about the future of my country especially for my children, grand children, and great grand childrens future . Guess I will just end with that......

Bruce, no need to apologize.  You said some very passionate things the way you felt, and everyone is entitled to do so.  End of discussion.

My daughter's twins officially became teenagers today!  13........it's only just beginning.  LOL

Does anyone remember "Blackies" on Detroit Rd.?  Oh and have a happy Thanksgiving!

Of course I do buddy, great penny candy,a kids dream.

Ellen Aspinwall (Templar)

"Blackies" is still there, I believe.  Right next to Beach School? It's something else now and spiffied up, but still there. Great place to stop on the way home from school.

Another fav place was the cobbler's shop east a ways on Detroit. It smelled so good and he loved having the kids come in after school. He always had candy for us. What business today wants a bunch of kids hanging around? Simpler times.....

Good memories, Buddy!

For those of us who went to Wooster School, it was "Zach's" .  A little store on the way home from school but they had penny candy.  Mother gave us a quarter to buy something every Fri.   If you spent wisely, you could get a lot of stuff!!  Barb & I loved the wax lips and fireballs.  Janet Soros always went too as we walked to and from school sometimes.  That was so fun.  Kids don't have those same experiences today and it's a shame as it taught us to be grateful for those little things.  By the way, Mike, there was a Blackie's Dry Cleaners in Lakewood but they didn't have penny candy!  Daddy would stop at the bakery on Detroit St. on our way home after he went to pick his shirts up at the Chinese Laundry and his suit at Blackie's.  It was such a treat!

Time for a bit of humor followed by some of what I am thankful for.

Thanksgiving Letter From Grandma!

Dear Family.......Living is still important to me.

If being in my Last Will and Testament is important to you, then you might consider being with me for my favorite holiday. Dinner is at 2:00. Not 2:15. Not 2:05. Two. 2:00! Arrive late and you get what's left over.

Last year, that moron Marshall fried a turkey in one of those contraptions and practically burned the deck off the house. This year, the only peanut oil used to make the meal will be from the secret scoop of peanut butter I add to the carrot soup.

Jonathan, your last new wife was an idiot. You don't arrive at someone's house on Thanksgiving needing to use the oven and the stove. Honest to God, I thought you might have learned after two wives - date them longer and save us all the agony of another divorce.

Now, the house rules are slightly different This year because I have decided that 47% of you don't know how to take care of nice things. Paper plates and red Solo cups might be bad for the environment, but I'll be gone soon and that will be your problem to deal with.

House Rules:
1. The University of Texas no longer plays Texas A&M. The television stays off during the meal.
2. The "no cans for kids" rule still exists. We are using 2 liter bottles because your children still open a third can before finishing the first two. Parents can fill a child's cup when it is empty. All of the cups have names on them and I'll be paying close attention to refills.
3. Chloe, last year we were at Trudy's house and I looked the other way when your Jell-O salad showed up. This year, if Jell-O salad comes in the front door it will go right back out the back door with the garbage. Save yourself some time, honey. You've never been a good cook and you shouldn't bring something that wiggles more than you. Buy something from the bakery.
4. Grandmothers give grandchildren cookies and candy. That is a fact of life. Your children can eat healthy at your home. At my home, they can eat whatever they like as long as they finish it.
5. I cook with bacon and bacon grease. That's nothing new. Your being a vegetarian doesn't change the fact that stuffing without bacon is like egg salad without eggs. Even the green bean casserole has a little bacon grease in it. That's why it tastes so good. Not eating bacon is just not natural. And as far as being healthy... look at me. I've outlived almost everyone I know.
6. Salad at Thanksgiving is a waste of space.
7. I do not like cell phones. Leave them in the car.
8. I do not like video cameras. There will be 32 people here. I am sure you can capture lots of memories without the camera pointed at me.
9. Being a mother means you have to actually pay attention to the kids. I have nice things and I don't put them away just because company is coming over. Mary, watch your kids and I'll watch my things.
10. Rhonda, a cat that requires a shot twice a day is a cat that has lived too many lives. I think staying home to care for the cat is your way of letting me know that I have lived too many lives too. I can live with that. Can you?
11. Words mean things. I say what I mean. Let me repeat: You don't need to bring anything means you don't need to bring anything. And if I did tell you to bring something, bring it in the quantity I said. Really, this doesn't have to be difficult.
12. Domino's and cards are better than anything that requires a battery or an on/off switch. That was true when you were kids and it's true now that you have kids.
13. Showing up for Thanksgiving guarantees presents at Christmas. Not showing up guarantees a card that may or may not be signed.

Love You, Grandma

From me to you:   I am grateful for my Ohio classmate-friends. What fun we have when we are together! How supportive and concerned we can be when it is needed! I am so grateful that we share that growing up experience and that now, in later years, we can come together in joy with each other no matter our differences. That has been, and hopefully will continue to be, an amazing experience. I am grateful for all of you and wish the same for you with each other. I also extend special gratitude to my classmate-Huron buddies, Debbie and Guy, who do so much for me!

I am grateful for this wonderful, funky country we live in. It must be the best country in the world because immigrants can’t get here fast enough. We are privileged to live here and blessed to be.

This Thanksgiving Season of 2016, let us take the time to reflect on all the important and even the not so important things we have to be grateful for, but most particularly, let us be grateful for each other. We’re all we’ve got!

Have a happy, safe, warm and peaceful Thanksgiving!

Just letting all of my friends on Facebook know that I deactivated my account due to my computer being hacked.  Don't know how, but my email was compromised for sure.  For security reasons, I decided to get off Facebook at this time. I guess if Hillary's computer could be hacked, so can mine!  My IT technician cleaned everything on my computer, and I have taken steps to secure everything.  He said these people are very savy. Going to Ohio December 1st for a month, as we are having whole family for Christmas at Lin and Fred's house. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.

I just took a memory test that said my results were 100% and my memory was better than average.  That it's 'normal' to forget your keys, where you parked, etc. I actually kind of wonder if that test is real or if everyone gets 100% no matter their answers. Along those lines, this made me laugh!
