Does anyone really believe that African, Caribbean or South American countries will rush in to help the people of Haiti or is this just another nasty job for the white man.

Fred---The weather in Cleveland is warming up. The sun is shining. I'll bet Randy is sneakin' out to work on that buggy when he thinks we aren't lookin'....

I wish I was out there. Got to get it back together soon.

Ellen, yes I'm ready for a joy ride in Rabdy's car when he's not around. Let's try that stunt that John Dawson tried at about 80 mph over the railroad tracks and see how long we can leave the ground. If something happens we'll just say "Whatever!!" or "S^^t happens!" That should cover it.

Hmmmm...don't think I'm wantin' to do any stunt-driving, Fred. It's too pretty of a baby to take a chance of hurtin'....be happy just to toddle it down the street. Doesn't look like it'd do much over 40 anyway......It's one of those. We need dusters and googles......and watch out for cops....

01/13/10 06:07 PM #221

Fred Thomas

OK Ellen, I'll take it slow and easy at first. Then I'll let you drive if you want.

I have some bad news for you Ellen. At 80 it feels like 30. No A/C no Heat just music when your in the go button.
You guys are all boaters. It sounds like a big block boat. Its a little top heavy so not sure if it will do a John stunt.
I have the appraisel papers for you to look at before you go. Make sure you have the clear deed to your property, children will not work I'm not congress.

To be politically correct it fecies occurred!

John,

I got my driver's license when I was 16 and lost it twice before I was 16 and a half. I drove drunk and drove fast most of the time. Those guys hauling moonshine down thunder road had mothing on me.

I just paid the fines as part of life until one day I realized that the speeding ticket I just got would put me over 12 points and I would lose my license. I got a lawyer and went to court. I remember the judge asking the prosecutor how many prior tickets I had. He said "Eighteen." I was thinking, "Those are only a small part of the tickets I got just in Ohio." Nevertheless, they clipped my wings for good that day. I had to go to speeder rehab.

The judge told me I'm going to suspend your fine and also your license for 30 days. The took my license for a year in New Mexico and when I came home on leave I applied for a replacement, and they gave it to me. The world was better in some ways with out computers.

I don't recall anyone being "hyperactive" and in need of drugs when we were growing up. Now those drug cocktails that perform chemical lobotomies on kids are prescribed routinely because of an apparent epidemic of the alphabet diseases like ADHD ADD.

What has happened since we were young? I have my own theory, I'm sure you all have yours. First, kids are eating much more processed food spiked with corn sweeteners. Second, kids don't get enough exercise. Many don't even walk back and forth to school anymore. Third, many mom's go back to work soon after giving birth and many children thus have not even bonded with an adult and do not exhibit human behavior patterns anymore.

Those pudgy little Porkers with the empty video game stare on their face look somewhat like us but really are "The Children of the Damned" and must be stopped at all costs. So, if we don't keep feeding drugs to these little alien monsters, we might be overwhelmed one day.

Speak for yourself Fred.
My grand children and great grand children are perfect children. They play with there parents on there easels that I bought them instead of computers.

Fred - Haiti Update, White Man's Mess
"Haiti’s government stopped accepting flights into the country’s airspace because the airport’s ramps are full and there’s no fuel for planes to fly home. Nine flights from the U.S. were circling and waiting to land this afternoon, and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration barred U.S. flights from taking off for Haiti until the airport is cleared."

They are saying that only (someone's) military can keep peace, distribute food and water, and build shelters. So sad.

01/14/10 05:13 PM #228

Fred Thomas

Al,

Sorry to hear that news. I've been to Labadee, Haiti a few times on cruises. I just hope they clear the dead bodies off the beach before I go back. It could be somewhat unsightly and stinky.

Did the Commie Nations like Cuba and Venesuela pitch in yet or are they too busy killing their own people? I guess this will be another job for Whitey?

Yes John, and remember that when that tsunamie hit Asia the USA sent two ex-presidents, ships, planes, food and water and unprecedentedd amounts of private donations. We should be generous in our aid because that's our nature, but we shouldn't pay attention to the piss ant countries like France or the UN when we pursue our national interests and waterboard some terrorists or jail them at Gitmo. Those so-called allies and UN pussies are pretty useless anyway when we are bailing out the people of Haiti or kicking ass in Afganistan or Yemen.

Sure Venezuela will help! It says so right here: "Venezuela said it would send a 50-member “humanitarian assistance team” to Haiti in the next few hours." Money was not mentioned. The US expects to have "24 helicopters flying relief missions — many from warships off the coast — with 4,200 military personnel involved and 6,300 more due by Monday." The 50 Venezuelans could possibly pump gas and clean windshields for our choppers.

One one hand, helping is what we do, so let's do it. On the other hand, the only reason we "have enough money" to do it is that we print it, and fools around the world still accept it, in spite of Obama's best efforts to debase it. Cuba and others are not so lucky. The Haiti earthquake is sad regardless of your politics. They did not bring this on themselves.

The UN IS responding in their own limited semi-competant way, and France? "In Paris, Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said France "expresses its complete solidarity" with Haiti, adding that his ministry's crisis centre had begun working "to mobilise and dispatch without delay urgent aid to Port-au-Prince."

Nothing is more useful to the hungry, thirsty, and injured than ""expressing solidarity"! Translation: they hope to do something eventually, maybe.

We will end up doing more than anyone, and we SHOULD, but do not expect to be thanked.

PS - Randy,

Good for you for helping to keep those grandkids off the computer games! We are doing the same, with books, and non-electronic games and various "stuff to build with".
Good job!

My old car belongs to my grand kids Carter and Abby. He's two but will grow up soon. He already likes driving it. Abby (6 years old) does parades with me and hands out candy. Theres nothing wrong with liking old cars.

01/16/10 06:54 PM #233

Fred Thomas

Randy,

You should tow that car to the living room and show the grandkids how to take that car apart piece by piece and put it together again. You might want to drain the fluids out of it first though.

I came up with a fun way to teach the grandkids some addition skills: rolling dice. I'll teach them craps when they get good.

And it might even help pay for Grandpa's new teeth? LOL

My favorite car was a 1967 Mercury Cougar. We went shopping for a cheap practical sedan in Ann arbor, and were asked by the part-time-preacher salesman "are you sure you don't want to try this one?" That car was awesome. We used to go looking for Bonnevilles to blow off on I-94. with our 390 cu in V-8. It looked like this:

http://www.nextconceptcars.com/wp-content/locul-10-1967-mercury-cougar-maroon-fa-nf.jpg

One day we were hit by someone who crashed a stop sign, and never did get the frame straight again. We ended up selling the car to a student from Uganda, who shipped it home. Fortunately, he did not know where to find me!

Here is my list of the most irritating cliches:

1. "going forward", Instea how about, "teleporting into the future" or "Hop into your time macine".

2. "grow the business", Anything would be better than this worn out phrase.

3. Amything with "reform" after it, such as: healthcare "reform", education "reform". "Reform" as it is now used means that the government WILL make it worse.

4. "Diversity" It doesb't mean diversity of ideas. Throw "diversity" in the garbagecan, political correctness has ruined it..

5. "My wife (husband) is still my best friend". People should be arrested for this bullshit line.

6. "The experts were surprized that.... " The unemployment rate went up (down), Housing sales went up (down), fill in the blank. Who are these experts and why are they always surprized that they are wrong, AGAIN?

Cliche Reform

I think we ought to replace old cliches with new ones.

OLD: If you love him let him free. If he returns it was meant to be.
NEW: If he leaves, change the locks throw all of his stuff in the yard and light it on fire.

OLD: Out of sight, out of mind.
NEW: You have a really short attention span.

OLD: It's not you; it's me.
NEW: It's you.

OLD: Think outside the box.
NEW: Get an idea. ANY idea. PLEASE!

OLD: I wanted to touch base with you.
NEW: I want to fondle you.

OLD: With all due respect
NEW: Kindly brace for a sarcastic insult.

OLD: Between a rock and a hard spot
NEW: You're screwed.

"Two heads are better than one." or "Too many cooks spoil the soup." or are they both bullsh*t.

If Obama is a Marxist as many of us suspect then the election of a Republican Senator in Massachusetts yesterday will not affect his agebda. Remember the old communist saying, "One man, one vote, one time."
