Also at age 65 you qualify for the Homestead Act and your property taxes are reduced by 25%. That is a savings to any fixed income family. My property taxes are nearly $2,000. (for what I do not know, because Vermilion's underground infrastructure is in shambles, the streets are really horrible, so bad a neighbor posted a sign on his yard "Travel at your own risk - artillery craters ahead"). I think we are the only community that has 4 inch water lines servicing side streets. Anyway that will be reduced to $1480./ year.
